Cybersecurity 1-2 prepares students for a career in network administration and information technology support services with a focus on cyber security. This course includes a series of technical modules that provide hands-on knowledge and skills development in computer hardware, operating systems, networking, coding, and security infrastructures. Industry-based curricula are utilized in network and virtual image environments to emulate real-life scenarios and prepare students for industry recognized certifications. Students research and address ethical and legal standards, information security, and mitigate cyber vulnerabilities through intricate problem-solving scenarios mandating critical thinking, incident response and analysis, and collaboration. Curriculum content is designed to ensure privacy, reliability, and integrity of information systems for students preparing for careers in Cyber Security and Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

Certifications

Industry recognized certifications are about achieving designations that demonstrate to an employer that you are an expert in a particular area and that a reputable, recognizable organization is willing to attest to that.

Certifications are a great way to gain credibility, knowledge and hiring value to employers. Certifications can show not only your skill level but also dedication to your craft through professional development; and that you have the foresight necessary to stay ahead of industry trends. Additionally, in highly competitive industries where you might share similar experience, education and skills with other candidates, a certification may be the qualification that gets you the job.

Students will work toward completing the CompTIA ITF+ in Cybersecurity 1-2.

Upon successful completion of the full Cybersecurity Pathway, students will also have the foundational knowledge necessary for and be working toward certifications such as CompTIA Security+, A+, Network+, Server+, and Cisco Certified Network Associate.

This course is articulated with Modesto Junior College. Students that complete this course with a grade of "B" or higher will receive 3 units of CSU transferrable college credit in CSCI 240: Networking Essentials.

CyberPatriot

The mission of CyberPatriot is to inspire students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future through fun and engaging programs designed for K-12 students. Each team competes in a series of online competition rounds by fixing vulnerabilities, hardening systems, and performing other tasks. Rounds are held on weekends, and all divisions compete on the same weekends. Teams may compete in any six consecutive-hour period within the specified competition windows during the online competition rounds. Awards and national recognition are available for winning teams.

National Cyber League

The National Cyber League (NCL) is the most inclusive, performance-based, learning-centered collegiate cybersecurity competition today! The NCL, powered by Cyber Skyline, enables students to prepare and test themselves against practical cybersecurity challenges that they will likely face in the workforce, such as identifying hackers from forensic data, pentesting and auditing vulnerable websites, recovering from ransomware attacks, and much more! The NCL is a community and virtual training ground that allow students to develop and demonstrate their technical cybersecurity skills, helping students bridge the gap from curriculum to career.

NorCalCyber Mayors Cup

The NorCalCyber Mayors Cup brings awareness to cybersecurity careers and provides students an opportunity to engage in team-based learning. The Sacramento County Office of Education and the North Regional Consortium invite students, educators, businesses, and government leaders from across Northern California to participate in the NorCalCyber Mayors Cup experience.
